NEWS FLASH: Visitors make their way to Cal's patch which has returned upon the arrival of autumn. Those who plan to visit can expect moderate foot traffic in and around the area.
AUTUMN ARRIVES TO THE DREAM WORLD
By: Oswald
It's officially autumn in the dream world.
September 1 officially kicked off the autumn season in the dream world. Following a relatively average and warm summer, the dream world began to see the transition into the next season in mid-August. As temperatures slowly declined, it began to feel more and more like the end of summer.
However, the biggest notable change is the foliage of trees across much of the dream world.
“It’s amazing to see the trees begin to change color when autumn arrives,” Gabrielle, a resident at a local trailer park told me, “It reminds me that we’re getting closer to the best time of year…Halloween!”
“I like seeing the different shades of orange, red and yellow on the trees,” local passerby Daniel told me, “It’s fun to jog through the leaves on the ground. I think it makes autumn pretty.”
The Dimension Weather Prediction Service has forecast that this year’s autumn season will be average. They stated that they aren’t expecting any warmer or cooler than normal temperatures nor unusual precipitation rates or weather being reported. They don’t expect it to be like last year’s autumn season.
“Things look normal for autumn based on all of our forecast models. We crunched numbers, looked at stats, and we feel confident in our forecast,” DWPS senior meteorologist Neige said, “That being said, we do not expect a repeat of last year’s autumn season that ended in an early winter. Trust me, it won’t happen.”
Residents have also been seen purchasing autumn related items such as pumpkin pies, sweaters, and of course, pumpkins themselves.
“I got a pumpkin from Cal’s patch! I heard he was back with his pumpkins and I just had to stop by,” Nydia, a passerby, told me, “If you want a pumpkin, go visit Cal!”
The DWPS stated that autumn will run from September 1 until November 30. For the latest weather forecast and information, please visit their website or visit your local forecasting office for additional resources. Happy autumn!
OPINION: DIA BETTING ON HUMAN DISAPPROVAL
By: Tribune Staff
The Dimension Investigation Agency recently opened up job opportunities in higher rank roles at its branch for humans. These opportunities are currently limited to a new task force aimed at finding and apprehending Lucid, but this begs the question: Is the DIA betting on one particular statistic?
Historically since 1940, Lucid has maintained a negative favorability among the general public. A recent poll conducted by the dream world’s Academy showed that Lucid held a 57 percent negative favorability among 1,000 respondents. For human respondents, this answer was more split with 52 percent having a positive favorability.
However, looking closer at human respondents, those who have been living in the dream post-1940 have a dramatic difference from their pre-1940 counterparts. In this case, 68 percent of human residents who reside in the dream world since 1940 have a negative favorability of Lucid. With this in mind, it may start becoming obvious why the DIA is choosing to court humans into joining LATE: they’re easier to persuade on this issue.
The DIA may be placing a gamble on recruiting humans, particularly those living in the dream world after Lucid’s trial, to mark the agency’s newest task force as a success. Yet, why are so many humans after 1940 so negative of Lucid? Studies by sociologists at the Academy suggest that human perception of Lucid’s crimes differ from those who witnessed Lucid’s accomplishments before 1930 versus those who simply weren’t here to see those accomplishments.
Essentially, pre-1940 humans have an idea of who Lucid was as a person but post-1940 humans simply hear stories— many of them negative— about Lucid and make their assumptions about him being a crime-ridden person who is bad for the dream world. Even if they wanted to research, much information on Lucid online or in text is gone and illegal to seek out anyway, so word of mouth is the main way to receive information despite being majorly negative.
It’s still early to determine what impact new recruits into LATE will have into the investigation of Lucid, but it appears the DIA is setting the stage to push a heavy anti-Lucid agenda within the agency. LATE is merely the beginning of this, in our opinion, as we simply watch and wait to see what comes of it.
Q/A: Ask Nate
Dear Nate, what’s up with all the radios in every dimension?
By: Ray Dio
Hi there Ray! That’s a very interesting question. I will try my best to explain what I know. In my travels across the dream world, I too have noticed all of the radios in each dimension. They all play different music and can be heard in that dimension only. To understand the radio, we have to understand the physical radio itself.
In the real world, the radio was invented in the late 19th-early 20th Century, when humans built the first one. Upon its invention, the radio eventually landed and manifested itself into the dream world. Remember, things in the dream world can’t exist if humans don’t imagine or build it first. Tip: if enough people think of something, it becomes real, in the dream world, at least.
Now that’s the history of the radio, but the actual radio you encounter across dimensions, is another mystery! It is safe to assume that if you see a radio in a dimension, that dimension is modern; you’ll see a radio in the Class dimension, but you probably won’t see a radio in, let’s say the Tomb Dimension. That’s because that dimension existed before humans invented the radio, so it can’t be in there!
All I can say is that I don’t necessarily know why it appears in A LOT of dimensions. My theory? Maybe someone planted a radio in each dimension to drive everyone crazy!! Like Santa Claus leaving gifts, except he leaves one radio in each dimension for whatever reason. I can’t necessarily call the radio a threat if it’s not hurting anyone. Maybe we will find out the truth someday!
Dear Nate, what is the Patch dimension like?
By: P. Kin
Hello P! Wow, you’re in for a treat, actually. The Patch dimension is back just in time for the start of autumn and people are already there visiting!
The dimension itself is very cool! Step in and you’ll immediately feel the crisp, autumn air. The sky is an orange sunset hue, trees have their autumn foliage ready, and of course: pumpkins! If you’re lucky enough, you might meet the keeper of the patch, Cal. Cal’s been running his farm for several decades now and it’s always a big hit! Cal himself is quite reserved though; there are rare occasions you’ll bump into him, but he’s mostly out guarding his most prized possession.
Cal has kept the biggest pumpkin of the patch to himself, and for reasons too! Many can pick pumpkins to take with them, but the biggest one is always for him and him only. There are stories of people wanting to steal it, so he’s definitely guarding it. Although, in recent years, he’s been more fond of people entering his maze and he’s even appearly publicly more and more! It’s always good to see someone come out of their shell—wait— are pumpkins a kind of shell? Maybe their seeds? Huh, I’ll have to ask Lucid.
There are also strange stories of the patch itself. For some weird reason, the patch seems to “come alive” during October. I can’t verify if the patch is cursed, or has some sort of weird anomaly to it, but visiting it around Halloween is a different experience. Overall, the dimension is safe and nice to visit! If you plan to visit, be sure to pick up a pumpkin or two. It’ll make Cal pretty happy!
