NEWS FLASH: As the dream world begins to observe the Halloween season, the Dimension Forest and Parks Service has begun their trial tours of paranormal areas around the wilderness. While limited to a select few lucky individuals, feedback will determine if such tours will open up to the public next year.
DWPS, DIA SPAT OVER INVESTIGATING NOISES
By: Porter
In recent news, the Dimension Weather Prediction Service and the Dimension Investigation Agency have been in a recent public dispute over investigating unidentified sounds in the dream world.
The weather agency has asked the DPF's investigation agency for assistance in helping with their own investigation into strange noises that the public has been reporting for the last month or so. The DWPS stated that they are still not sure what is causing the sounds nor where the source is coming from but they believe that, in order to advance their stalled investigation, they will need assistance from the DIA.
However, the DIA has made it clear that they are not interested in helping the DWPS because of policy changes enacted under its chief detective.
"Our agency has halted ALL non-criminal related investigations per an order filed by Chief Detective Sylveran back in March of 2025," the DIA posted on LiminalSpaces, "If there is nothing apparently criminal with such ongoing matters, as determined by the chief detective, the DIA will NOT be able to comply."
It is true that the DIA enacted this new policy not soon after chief Sylveran stepped into the role. This move was seen as controversial and later analysis showed that it has slowly put strain on other agencies in the DPF such as the Dimension Patrol Unit which is not normally made to handle an influx of investigation cases since this has long been handled by the DIA. Because of this, there has been some backlog and lesser patrol units across the dream world as they have been tasked with dealing with non-criminal cases.
The director of the DWPS, Kairos Tropos, made a rare public post on his LiminalSpaces account once again urging the DIA to assist his agency and personally tagging chief Sylveran too. This post, while very direct, has not been given a response from the chief detective. It is not known whether the DIA chief will publicly respond or change course to assist the DWPS; the DIA has also not responded further to public comment and questions from the Tribune regarding this matter.
As for the unidentified sounds, they remain persistent and the DWPS asks the public to continue reporting such sounds and to remain vigilant in the event of a tremor. This is a developing story. Stick with the Tribune for the latest information as it happens.
DREAM WORLD LOOKING SPOOKY
By: Oswald
It's mid-October and the dream world is feeling it.
Across the general dream world, various dimensions and areas have dressed up in their best costumes and been decorated for the Halloween season. Many dream world residents love to observe Halloween for the thrill and fun of it. Because of this, some areas are offering their unique takes on the holiday.
At the Cinema, moviegoers can expect to find screenings of primarily horror genre flicks as well as suspense, thriller and other Halloween season related flicks of differing genres. If you're looking for something more fun, the Neighborhood is holding a trick-or-treat event where those in costume can stop by and knock for treats. At the Ramen, special spicy and sweet dishes are being served as their “Tricked Treat” dish for the Halloween season.
If you're looking for some scary places to visit, some dimensions look to be straight out of a nightmare! The Hallway dimension appears to be the recreation of a very bad dream, as well as the Window dimension which is a neverending nightmare. The Lab is hosting scary games on their computers for those seeking a virtual fright and a jumpscare or two. The Facility is also looking pretty dark and spooky with some detailing it as another bad dream come true.
And of course, if you're looking for fun places to visit, the Arcade has turned into the Starfright Arcade with lots of games in a spooky but still entertaining environment. The Party dimension is holding its own Halloween party in order to truly hold up to its name this Halloween season. Lastly and likewise, the Club will be holding another Halloween party that is usually hosted by Count Anastasius, but because the famed vampire will be busy elsewhere, it will be hosted by his good friend Jiangshi instead.
Of course, there are many other areas and rooms to check out in the dream world aside from these. Halloween is still over a week away so you have from now until early November to truly experience the sights and frights there are to offer out there. Have a terrific but safe trip to those venturing out there!
Q/A: Ask Nate
Dear Nate, why are dolls often haunted?
By: Chuck E.
Hiya Chuck! I’m assuming you’re talking about the kind of dolls that are typically stuffed and sewn and come in all sizes! There are doll people in the dream world, but they are real living people! We have our own dolls and plushies that we make to comfort us, but how come we often hear stories of haunted dolls?
I had this question myself long ago when I was investigating a strange case of a haunted object. Of course, this was when I worked with Lucid! It was an old, antique doll that was already worn out, but we were told it would come alive when no one was looking. It was so much for the owner who wanted to know what kept making things around the house bump in the night! I had to ask Lucid why dolls are often haunted.
If I remember correctly, Lucid explained to me that sometimes a spirit will inhabit a doll or plush toy as a way to remain “human.” If you recall, spirits in the dream world are deceased humans who made their way here from the real world. However, sometimes a spirit is not content with not having a physical body. Unlike demons, they cannot possess a living person, but they can “possess” physical non-person objects like dolls! Dolls typically resemble humans or people and have arms and legs. This allows the spirit to essentially use the doll as a way to continue living their life as if they were human, although it’s a bit limited being in a doll’s body!
Not all dolls are haunted, though. Spirits may attach themselves to a physical non-person object they may have had a strong connection to when they were alive- say, a child with their plush animal. Sometimes, a spirit may just find a doll or plush toy lying around and decide to call it their new home. If you have a doll that’s inhabited by a spirit, it’s best to leave it alone. I mean, you wouldn’t want to anger whoever is inside of it. Can you imagine a haunted doll going around wrecking havoc? Worst case scenario, just call the professionals!
